Wife of Achab, King of Israel. She was a Sidonian princess, a fanatical devotee of the Phenician deities, the worship of which she imposed on Israel, persecuting the prophets of Jehovah. She met her death by being thrown from a window at the command of Jehu, and the dogs ate her flesh, thus fulfilling the prophecy of Elias.
