גֵּז m. (from the root גָּזַז), pl. const. גִּזֵּי.
(1) [“a shearing, meton.”] shorn wool of sheep, a fleece; Deuteronomy 18:4, רֵאשִׁית גֵּז צֹאנְךָ “the firstfruits of the fleece of thy sheep,” Job 31:20 compare גִּזָּה.
(2) [“a mowing, e. g.”] a mown meadow, Psalms 72:6; Amos 7:1, גִּזֵּי הַמֶּלֶךְ “the king’s mowings.” This apparently signifies the firstfruits of the hay, which the kings of Israel perhaps required.
