) is rush about madly (literally, or in passion, love, &c.), figurative be distracted; on √ הִים see Hi Psalm 55:3 Nö ZMG 1883,540) — Qal Perfect 3 masculine singular suffix וְהָמָם consecutive Deuteronomy 7:23 מְהוּמָה גְדֹלָה׳וְה (׳י subject) and he shall discomfit them (with) a great discomfiture (according to Di ׳וה is from הָמַם, here pointed as עו֞ because of מְהוּמָה; but see Kö i. 486 & references); here, according to Nö l.c., belongs Imperfect 1 singular cohortative אָהִ֫ימָה (i. e. √ עי֞) Psalm 55:3 am driven about (Hi De), or distracted.
Niph`al Imperfect 3 feminine singular וַתֵּהֹם 1 Samuel 4:5 2t. (on form compare Ges§ 72 R 5); be in a stir, of a city Ruth 1:19 (followed by על over, on account of, 1 Kings 1:45; of ground Revelation -echoing shout 1 Samuel 4:5.
Hiph`il Imperfect 1 singular אָהִ֑ימָה Psalm 55:3 shew disquietude (so most, compare above); but Ol Che וְאֶהֱמָ֑וָה ( Psalm 77:4); Lag Proph. Chald. xlviii. 2, BN 27 אֶהֱמֶה ( Psalm 18); 3 feminine plural תְּהִימֶנָה (?תֶּהֱמֶינָה) Micah 2:12 they (i.e. fold & pasture) shall murmur with men.
הוּם to put into motion, to disturb; kindred to the roots הָמַם, הָמָה. Deuteronomy 7:23, הָמָם מְהוּמָה גְדוֹלָה “he brings upon them great disturbance.” Whence תְּהוֹם pr. the sea in commotion.
Niphal, fut. יֵהֹם to be disturbed, to be in commotion, as a city, land, Ruth 1:19; 1 Samuel 4:5; 1 Kings 1:45.
Hiphil, to make a commotion, Lermen machen, toben (comp. הִשְׁקִיט Ruhe halten), used of a multitude making a noise, Micah 2:12 of an uneasy mind (Toben im Jnnern), Psalms 55:3.
